Shelf styling can be tricky! Especially when starting fresh after the holidays. I had a lot of requests for help with this over on my Instagram so I wanted to share some of my favorite tips and pieces for shelf styling.
Tips:
- First remove everything off your shelves.
- Give away/donate/throw out pieces you don’t like or are too small for the space. Scale matters! I prefer larger pieces over lots of little cluttered pieces.
- Pick colors/tones/textures you want to use. For me this included stoneware neutrals, woven textures, greenery, light wood tones, and a few black accents.
- Start with the largest pieces first and stagger them so that there is balance.
- If styling shelves side by side or built ins I try to offset pieces. For example, use similar height or style pieces on the opposite side or diagonal from the other side.
- Sleep on it! If something doesn’t look right I will step away from it and come back to it.

Do you happen to have the link for the garland you used for the fireplace in last year’s pic? I love it and was also curious if you did a tutorial for swagging it as well?
